Tones
verse Smart Screen
Tones and target cross hairs on the smart screen. I have found the
cross hairs to be extremely slow in comparison to the tones. I have
found that it is better to go primarily by tones and use the cross
hairs as just a verification of what I just heard in the head phones.
I primarily keep the response setting on deep or deep and fast. I'm
not sure what is going on when both are selected but I have found
in some moderately clean areas that it makes the machine sound a little
better with both selected. I have found that in really trashy areas
where you are not getting much of a thresh hold that even going to
just a fast response does not help much but makes the cross hairs
a lot more erratic and not very accurate at all. You will find that
once you get a good tone you will have to stop the coil and let the
cross hairs catch up to go to the area that you just heard the tone
at. Sometimes you will have to sweep the coil a couple of times to
get a good strong tone out of it before you stop it on the side of
the target to get an accurate cross hair location settled in. Just
the nature of the beast, can be a little confusing and frustrating
at first but once you learn it, it will become second nature.
