New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
Hey guys...been trying to get hold of a larger coil to go with my ultimate and my 8x6 sef...saw this come up with chef, who has only used it three times and its just a few months old and couldnt resist a go. In principle it sounds great...what do you guys think it might be like?...Have any of you bought the coil and experienced it yet? cheers!!
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
i liked the look of this coil....not as deep as the ultimate im led to believe but very good on small targets and very good separation......why was chef selling his though?
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
My thoughts as well. If somethings good you dont sell it after three uses, do you?
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
You do if 70% of your time is spent in hospital.

Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
certainly will mate....what type of ground/s would you suggest it would be good to test it on?...got some slightly trashy pasture I thought I would do first!
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
plow or pasture with this coil i would have though.....i would try it somewhere you have hammered with the ultimate coil.....it woud be interesting to see how they compare
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
got it earlier on and did a bit of air testing indoors, so not really worth much, but was very curious!...the ultimate and the 15x8 are very similar in depth on a small roman bronze and an old one penny....although the ultimate has the half inch or so edge over the 15x8 on the roman coin, and the 15x8 has around an inch edge over the ultimate on the penny. This is obviously to be expected, so doesnt give much more info, but on a cut half hammered on edge they both pull the same depth...so maybe it will be good on small stuff as advertised...
a big coil for deeper larger stuff, with the separation of an 8 inch coil?...Im going to try it on trashy pasture that Ive been over with the pro coil and the sef 8x6 lots in the past...only just got the ultimate coil so havent been over with that yet either!
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
We,ve got one if want, it's been hanging in the showroom for about 18 months, rumen sent it over to test, Nuff said.
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
well, finally got back to cornwall after a very long week with relations(boring!!) and gave the 15x8 its trial run today...as planned I went to some fairly trashy pasture which I have done well with a pro coil and spent the morning over the most productive area - quite a specific spot which had produced quite a bit, before drying up eventually. I first spent several hours going over it with the ultimate coil...I had two deep old pennies, a musket ball, and a deep spectacle buckle. I then followed up with the 15x8 inch coil for several hours....I had a smallish roman bronze which was at the depth of the pro pointer (9 inches?), a cut half tealby penny which was around six inches, and a broken wing from a toy aeroplane which I had almost given up on thinking it was big iron - coming from around 14 inches in the end! Now I am not saying that the 15x12 sef or the ultimate would not have found all of the above, but it seems strange that they didnt, and I believe that the blade like profile of the search field just getting in between iron and finding the bits which were, lets face it pretty deep, was the reason why they were found today!!
I have used a 15x12 sef coil a pro coil over this field for a long time, and the ultimate coil there too, although just for a few hours, and none of them found the items, so I think it is encouraging that the 15x8 did. I found it to be very stable, very good on target separation, and to give the same tones as I was used to from other coils. Whether the trial coil that flossy was sent was dodgy, or whether the few hours I had today was just a fluke remains to be seen over time I suppose, as he tells me that he didnt rate it particularly well for target separation, but I found it to at least match that of the 15x12 sef. I suppose further testing of it will give a better idea, but right now I am more than happy with my selection, and I am looking forward to getting back out over some more of my trashier pasture with it over the rest of the weekend. We will see!!
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
flossy - just out of interest...I notice that you field tested the ultimate coil a while back and rated that below the sef coils too - at the time you said that it was not deeper than the 12x10 SEF....do you still stick by this?
I would be curious to know what conditions you tested the 15x8 WSS coil in, as I have had a second stonking day with the same coil that you dont rate (the 15x8 WSS), doing the same things that you say its not as good as the 15x12 sef at doing, on a field that I have heavily detected with the 15x12 sef for several years until I felt it was done!
The finds I am making are all fairly deep and next to trash - and the target separation is awesome! - going against both of your findings!
Just out of curiosity, do you guys actually sell the detech ultimate coils and the 15x8 WSS coils?....or just the SEF coils, as a lot of the findings that you seem to have made during your field testing seem to go against lots of other opinions, and lean heavily towards the SEF's!...Just curious!!
One other thing to note about the 15x8 WSS is the solid shape in long grass....you dont get the grass going up in between the frame of the coil, and it glides perfectly through it, with the heavier weight pushing the grass down and keeping it close to the ground....
Due to the shape and weight I am thinking it will also be awesome in stubble!! How many deep coils can you slip through lines of stubble?? Based on the last few days, some nice pennies, a few hammered and some easy detecting, Im thinking this is going to be a good coil choice!
Cheers!!
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
cheers for posting your findings mate :Thumbs-Up:.
im surprised that flossy rates the 12x10 higher than the ultimate......ive got a 5mx5m patch that i have done to death with every sef coil and every detector i have ever owned and the ultimate pulled 3/5 targets out of it! the deepest at around 13 14 inches which is ridiculous so much so that i hesitate to write it because people will think its bull lol
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
...thats what I mean mate...I thought the ultimate was deeper than the 15x12 sef, let alone the 12 inch one!! But hey, everyones idea of a good field test is different isnt it...and whether its intentional for business reasons, or just sub concious, I think if someone is already leaning towards one type of coil it would be hard to have the confidence to give a completely independant review of something new, whether it was better or not!

Theres a test bed at the back of the shop and also one located in one of my fields so all the coils are tested under the same conditions, I can only report what I find when the coils are tested.
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
cool...well thats that then! So just to check, are you guys selling the detech ultimate coils at the moment, or just the sef's? cheers

Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
oh, ok then...I thought they had some SEF coils still left to sell!?... Anyway, Im enjoying the 15x8 wss and looking forward to giving it another blast again next weekend!
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
Well guys....had last week off work so used it every day on my two trashy pasture sites, its done the trick, I have found over 30 hammered coinds with it, plus other bits, on two sites that I felt oweing to the trash on them, there was no more that could be done!!...The 15x12 had been over the two fields just as much, and I thought I had worked them out, but how wrong was I!! Anway, as the rest of my pasture is clean as a whistle, and I continue to pull bits up with the 15x12 as no iron to get in the way, Im gonna keep the 15x12, the ultimate, the pro and a small coil, and sell the 15x8. I have it for sale on several other forums for 90 quid, plus postage, which is a bloomin bargain as they were 160 new, and its 10 quid less than I paid for it....but its worth loosing a tenner, cos Ive gained loads of silver and other stuff that was deep next to trash that I wouldnt have found otherwise! Its a great specialist tool....but I need to cut dow now for the impending needs of the kids and the missus with xmas presents and tree etc!! I will go premium on here again in next week or so, when I get paid!! But if anyone is interested please just let me know! Cheers!
Re: New Detech 15"x8" WSS (WideScan Series) coil
well...now its getting so close to christmas and money is getting silly tight Im gonna have to sell the 13 inch detech ultimate coil as well now! if anyone wants it, pretty much new in its box just let me know!!
