Hello! Can't say I ever noticed this problem on 3 explorers or the current Etrac! Making me think hard about buying the 3030 though until this problem is sorted. Maybe a "Lite" version? No 3 metre underwater capability, probably without the GPS if it is true that the contents are lost if you switch off the machine, this would be really crazy. I suppose I'll finish up with one in the end though!
Thanks for solving the mystery, in my head at least! I knew there was a reason why the rainbow effect was pronounced in some cases on the CTX, whereas it's really not on any other Minelab I've ever used. Makes perfect sense! I have noticed it before, slightly, on a few of the more recent Minelabs but not to the extent users are seeing here. Had to be the right angle and intensity of sunlight for it to appear slightly....
Well - sorry to hear about the problem.
I went on some other forums to check and see if anyone else was experiencing the same problem. I couldn't find any threads that actually mentioned the bad screen that we are having here.
But I did find, and I'm glad I did, a thread about decreasing the glare on the screen using a film called NuShield Day/Vue. In some cases, it removed totally the glare (thus the "rainbow effect") and you can even use your Polaroid Sunglasses (yeah, seeing the fish).
I went ahead and ordered the film and will let you know if it works. Can't say that I've got the same problem cause I'm not picking up my CTX 3030 Standard Pack until this Saturday. I hope that this simple solution will fix what is becoming a major problem for some.

That's great new's for you.Well done Minelab:Thumbs-Up: The only thing that concern's me is,if as stated on here all ctx3030 detector's are like this(rainbow effect) why would they replace it
What did you say was the fault for them to offer to replace it? Because from what I see in your first image is exactly the same as all the others I've seen.
Let's see an image with it switched on.
It will be interesting what you think of the replacement.
Hi ironhearted, i think the fault is obvious don't you think? Sorry for asking but what are you tying to say, that the problem with the screen isn't a problem but just in my imagination and you need proof?
I paid the full amount of money for the CTX 3030, I expect a full working CTX 3030 nothing more and nothing less.
I'm glad that minelab feels the same.

No I don't think this is a fault. I think the thickness of the plastic is causing light to refract, like a prism. Mine does it and the other images posted in this thread also show the same thing.
But it doesn't matter what I think, Minelab are going to replace yours.
I just want to reassure everyone else that this is not a problem, they all do it.
Hi Ironhearted_gog, i can assure you that this isn't just a prisma effect, it starts at the top in the middle of the display like a lightning and goes down to the right and the left and the bottom, i think there must be a kind of pressure at the top that causes this, perhaps the glass underline this effect i don't know.

Hi Highlander, went to Newbury to get wife her new Deus at Leisure Promotions and had first glimpse of CTX 30/30, wow well made and easy to programme. Carnt wait to get mine. On the issue of the screen I asked him if anyone has had problem like you guys have he said no one. And the only rainbow shadow on screen was when it was switched off, when he switched machine on then it was spot on . If screen is quarter inch thick then that possibly could be why. I got to wait until my coin auction money comes in 3 weeks as had to cater for my wife first, then I can get mine . Hope you resolve the screen issue, 2 year warranty so shouldnt be a problem, just slight inconvenience.:brick::Thumbs-Up:
Minelab have issued a product notice concerning this;

Glad that they responded.
I had mentioned this to Sheila the beginning of the week that there was a general concern about the "Rainbow Effect".

If this is a minelab problem, and a fault with manufacture I suggest minelab put some input to the thread, this is an expensive piece of kit,and its why Iam waiting till all the problems are sorted before buying.......
Mine got dirty the other day, I demand a replacement !
Saw this rainbow affect today when detecting, but it did not pose any problems at all.except ofcourse when the Screen froze and had to dissconect the battery.
:)
it seems that there are different sorts of rainbows on the CTX3030:o first of all Mr. Finbarr Lordan(Minelab Ireland) helped me a lot during the rainbow problems with the CTX3030, we kept in touch by mail during the testing he did for me in relationship to the rainbow effect.
He confirmed that there was a certain amount of polarization but nothing significant that affected the display, to be honest i had an other opinion.
As there were some scratches on my screen they decided to replace the Interface as a goodwill gesture, they sent my CTX3030 yesterday in a pre noon delivery, so i have to wait and see if there are some improvements in relationship to the rainbow effect, i keep you people informed!
