Pimped My Shaft. I think you will like it.

    Hello All

For Xmas I got a Sun Ray in-line probe but I didn't like the fact that you normally have to wrap the coil cord around the shaft as it must connect on the Sun Ray that is usually attached in the upper shaft.
To make a long story short, I modified the upper shaft and shortened the coil cord to fit nicely. I shortened my SEF coil first to try it out and make sure it is OK before I shorten my Pro Coil. The coil wiring is very simple and anyone could do it if you have the tools. I actually cut the end off and put a new connector on and sealed it with hot glue. The machining on the shaft was easy but I had to do it on a milling machine in the after hours at work.
    I hope you like it.

You know I thought about it but I kinda like the aluminum finish. It is hard to see but there is a plastic ramp inside so the connector is forced out of the slot. If I do paint it I am undecided if I should keep the slot profile edge aluminum shiny.
The cut out does not in any way weaken the shaft in that area. Well for sure it is weekend but with no negative effect to the usage.

Thanks for the comments guys. This was my first one so I am already thinking about improvements for the next one. If anyone has suggestions please let me know.
When I shorten the Pro coil wire I will add pics of the wiring, connector and soldering.
    Regards,

I did not get the badges done yet, but I hope to have some for this year. And I still want to get the 09 ones. The supplier was just pissing around too much.
I just have to get back at it. Thanks for reminding me.

What could I sell this Sunray X-1 for? What is a reasonable price to ask?
Would include the upper shaft as in the pics.
    Don't use the thing.
    Thanks

Looks a really pro job. does this affect the integrety of the shaft, ie. is it still as sturdy when it is swung

Thanks Brian. It is still very sturdy as I did not break the corners that are giving it the strength.

You have been shafted :rotate: you should get aroung £140 :P if you sell it right.

Why Waste time using an ordinary detector when you have the option to use a GPX4800.

Excellent!! I have thought about doing something like that too but I was always worried about the stability of the shaft.
You can find anything if you just keep looking and mostly in places where everyone has looked already.

With the normal set up the complete cable is exposed to the elements. I believe it would have to be raining hard to have water get into the tightly fastened connector. By that time I would be in the car I think
I don't use this thing because I prefer the Garrett Pro pointer. This was a gift but I think I will sell it.
