Etrac, true all metal mode

This is a discussion on Etrac, true all metal mode within the USA Chapter forums, part of the International Chapters category; I've read somewhere that the Etrac without any discrimination (open screen) is not really in a true all metal screen ...

    Etrac, true all metal mode

I've read somewhere that the Etrac without any discrimination (open screen) is not really in a true all metal screen or mode, is this true?

Or is the true all mode only on the gold machines?

I think you'll set off another argument with that question.

It should be all-metal and for most purposes it is. But people have found some circumstances where it sometimes isn't and I'm sure that people will give you a few examples.

The FBS does not have a true all metal mode. What people call all metal is a motion discriminate mode with all open screen. You still have the ID filters and all the other filters there.

Not only gold machines have true all metal mode. The Sovereign has a true all metal mode that can be ground balanced and the Terra 70-705 has.

There is lots of misunderstanding about this. The fact that you can hunt for all metals does not mean that You have a true all metal mode.

I guess I should have been a little more careful about how I worded the question.
In general a metal detector can detect deeper if running in a traditional all metal mode without filters. Now that said I was wondering if the Etrac would gain detection depth if the screen was completely open?

Yes, it will detect deeper with all open disc.

    Like all other detectors will.

I dont know if the FBS patent allows for a true all metal mode at all but if they had one it would have detectted even deeper.

Now, the FBS is very special so maybe it is not possible to make it that way at all. The Sovereign wich use the exact same waveform of harmonics does not ground balance in the BBS mode but do in the all metal mode.

And the BBS mode is deeper then the all metal mode on high conductors at least. The all metal mode more sensitive to smaller targets and nuggets but not as deep.

Me thinks the BBS and FBS is very special and maybe not allowing for a true all metal mode. Very noticable when using pinpoint on old explorers. Even that is a filtered mode.

Thanks for explaining in more detail.
    I truly love my Etrac.

I did get some info about the Etrac from Tom Dankowski's website.
The Etrac is dead to very small gold because it is in, what is called the salt mode all the time. That would explain why it can not see some of the small gold items I'd found with the Tesoro Tejon years ago. I tried every possible setting from sensitivity 30 to max gain and open screen.

Yes, all FBS are in a Salt mode. That is why it is immune to coke as coke is in the same conductive range as wet salt.

The smallest bits of gold and aluminium and foil and so on is also in that same range and will not be detected.

But try the detector in neutral soil setting. The GB setting is different there or salt mode subtractions is disabled.
