Thought i would write a little about the Joey coil from Coiltek.

I have used it a few times but thought today, as I have received my Explorer XS back after it went in for a full service with Minelab. It must be said that my Explorer came back looking fantastic and fully refurbished. Well done Minelab :-)

Anyway, back to the Little Joey.
I took it to one of my sites that I know is full of trash, (this is a local place that holds a festival every year and is a great place to practice separating good and bad signals)and as I didn't expect to find anything of value, it was a great area to put the coil through its paces. As I would only use this type of coil in trashy areas anyway because of its size.

First impressions are its is very light and balances well with the Explorer XS and is stable at high sensitivity too. One word of warning though.... it loves hot rocks and is very sensitive. I ended up digging a squashed sardine can at 15" (which confused me by giving a silver signal from both angles) and a small Norwegian 1 øre from 1931 (this is about 14mm) and it beeped out loud and clear.

Pinpointing is spot on and is just at the tip of the stem.

If you have a Minelab 8" stick with it as there is really no advantage with the Little Joey over this coil that I can see... in fact the Minelab is a deeper coil on the contrary what Coil tech proclaim about it.
But if your like me and want everything thats going for your Explorer... go ahead and buy one :-)

The "JOEY" coil from "COILTEK" has come across finds for me time and time again. Including gold rings and "large"American Cents. As well as a nice Civil war belt buckle.

I mainly use my Joey in "High Trash" areas, Gary is right it will not go as deep as the 8" coil but I would not expect it to because it is only 5" wide. I have already found a $500 Idaho Token with it this Year. Great Coil, but if there is a better one let me know...

As some of you might know,I used the little little joey coil on my Explorer SE for a while. The main bonus I found was the light weight, especially good when detecting larger areas for only very scattered targets.Saves a lot of armstrain. As coins in this area are generally not very deep, maximum depth is not really an issue.
