    Re: Coming in Spring, 2012

Looking like a "copy of the Garrett Pro Pointer".
Well what should a probe look like? Do we say that all detectors look like they are copied each other because they have the same general shape, components and look? What about the new Ford car , looks like they copied Dodge , the darn thing even has 4 wheels and one steering wheel.
Did we expect Minelab or another manufacturer to come out with a target probe shaped like a saucer or a shaped like a elephant for that matter. At the end of the day it is better for us as it keeps manufacturer trying to stay ahead of the game, and the only way to do that is to have a durable, safe ,easy to use, good quality product that is slight better than the competitor and or cheaper.
Now let's hope the price is right.
No disrespect to anyone whom might feel targeted in the post. Stewart73 :-), Jcmaloney :-),Steve_T:-)

It could also be the mother ship CODAN cashing in on minelab's good name It will be interesting to read the reviews but I really don't see this probe will give you a vast improvement over a garrett

Blimey Scott take the blinkers off fella. CODAN/Minelab have sat & watched Garrett produce a quality unit and absolutely nail the market for 2+ years and then they think "We`ve missed a trick here" we`ll copy it and rely on the brand name? Unless they pitch it at £30-£40 they`ll have a warehouse full of them.

Sure you hit it right on. They will rely on brand name and it will sell. They obviously know they can not expect current Garrett pro pointer users to switch. So they are depending on new users and future sales. We are talking about a pin pointer , something that many people make out of scrap material at home. Not a lot of risk as they would not have spent millions of dollars to develop and test it to be as good or better as the Garrett. Just another item they will offer and make profit on but it is not going to make or break the company. On such a product they have no chance of recovering lost market so there only chance is to take away from new. If I could have 25 p for everyone they will sell I would be more than happy. But I doubt they will be £30-£40 .
Codan/Minelab have been counting their money that they have made from gold machines and military machines. It is even a surprise that they came out with a probe. Maybe some junior employees that made it a project.

From looking at the picture it does not look very ergonomic??? a big square holding end will be like holding a big lego brick or Am I looking at it wrong (do have bad eyes).
Other than that not very exciting but then what pin pointer is, as long as it functions properly and is comfy to hold.

    Re: Coming in Spring, 2012

Although I no longer own a Minelab detector, I do beleive that Minelab were and could be again leaders in the market of hobby detectors.
I cannot comprehend why such a skilled high end company should lower there sights and bring out this product, it cannot compete with the garrett one in my opinion, even if the price were lower.
When more detectorists are selling or trying to sell there Etracs for whatever reason and then waiting for a new model to come out, Minelab hit the market with a probe. Dissapointed Dave.

    Re: Coming in Spring, 2012

Seeing what they have produced I think I will stay with my Sherlock probe for now.

Both the Garrett and this new offering are far too expensive for what they are. If they halve the price proposed I may consider buying one but I will wait and see.

Garrett are expensive but having used one for a while i would not be without it.Minelab may have produced a probe very much like the Garrett but if they sell it cheaper they could be on a winner.
