I know everybody expects it to be cold in Switzerland in Winter but that is only true up in the mountains. Down at the lakeside it is very much like living on the coast however as you can see from this morning's temperature it's getting a bit nippy! The snow that fell early in the week is just not going anywhere so I might not go detecting today.

I thought of going to the beach on the lake as it might not be frozen however conditions are brewing for the perfect Ice Storm. The last one we had here was in 2005. (See pictures on link). This is where a really strong wind whips up over the lake, lifts the water, freezes it in flight and gets dumped on the foreshore. I might stay indoors.

Wow thats cold, its 38 below in somewhere in europe ? they have already found 40 odd people dead in the streets and 30 odd in there homes

Looks great on post cards winter but do like it a tad warmer not much fun working out in it takes me ages to warm when i get in. -9 the last few nights i have work ..brrrrrrrrr.

Brrrrrr that's COLD! Only about -1 here in sunny Kent, positively roasting in comparison. I'm just glad I opened up my fireplace this year and installed a solid fuel open fire. Very nice in the evenings, nice, cosy and warm

Lots of days +30 C down here now. Would be nice to have some cooler weather.
Over in Western Australia,Perth had over a week of +38 C ,some sort of record I think.
The W.A. goldfields would have been hotter,into the 40's C.

Icecold.......!

This winter has been mellow.But tonight the temp dropped to -20c...
Not as cold as in Czeck Rep though.Anyway I don´t like it..very hard to detect right now..and the Terra is standing there in the corner,just waiting and waiting..

Not too cold here at the moment (-1). I was thinking of going out for a few hours detecting but it must have been colder than -1 last night as the ground is solid as a rock! so I expect the exposed fields will be just as hard to dig - will wait for things to thaw out a little me thinks

In the end I tried the beach yesterday. Frozen sand, a few strange looks and a couple of francs in modern coinage. Was going to try again this morning but -15C was enough for me and stayed in the warm. Trouble is it will now take a good 3-4 weeks before the fields thaw out for some serious detecting. Just have to wait it out.

Balmy weather down here in Dorset. Seems like everybody else has snow, it poured with rain all night here and today has been quite mild. Was going detecting this morning but me mate cried off sick which is very unusual for him.
