    G'day,
I plan to visit SA near Johannesburg. Primarily for flying reason's.
Could anyone advice me if there is any licence needed for gold prospecting?
Any special rules for people from abroad?

The only thing I know about the S. African government is, It is slow... find out whatever you can well in advance and get it in writing. Also some of the local villages have "kings" and permission must be asked of the king in person to do most anything in most cases.

Any South African consular office will keep you right. I do believe that you will need a license and also landowners permission, which may not be the easiest thing to get - identifying a landowner can be problematic in RSA! Under no circumstances just go and do your own thing - it could lead to massive trouble for you and there's always the danger of straying onto hunting territory.
