About 5 years ago, I purchased a used Lobo metal detector. I have wanted a detector for years, so needless to say I was happy to finally get one. I thought it was working alright, I was able to find some interesting things… lost toys, a few coins, parts & pieces of some unknown items.

Then approx. 6 months ago, I met a man, Bob McGinnis, and we started to discuss metal detecting. To my surprise, he told me that he owned a business for metal detectors. (This was nice, because I’ve wanted to upgrade to something new).
I was hunting in TTF stock coil auto +3 sens was about 15 I had been there about four hours and found nothing but trash and the skeleton key (eyeball find)bent down to move a piece of wire that my coil was hanging up on and noticed a strange shape.
I was really excited when I heard the news that Minelab had made a new waterproof metal detector and even more excited that I would have the chance to test the new machine. As a long time hardcore beach and shallow water hunter adding a new Minelab machine to my beach treasure hunting arsenal was certainly welcome.
After assembling the new CTX 3030 metal detector the first thing that impressed me was the design and balance of the new machine.

The silver coins were unearthed by metal detecting enthusiast father-of-three Scott Heeley, from Hednesford.
At least one of 242 coins bears the head of Roman politician and military general Mark Antony, the loyal friend of Julius Caesar.
Experts say it is the most exciting discovery in the area since the Staffordshire Hoard – a collection of the largest haul of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found.
Experts at the British Museum have compiled a report on Mr Heeley’s find while an independent valuation committee will identify how much they are worth.
Ian Richardson, the museum’s treasure
registrar
, confirmed that the coins were from the first and second centuries.
He said: “We get quite a few coin hoards every year but this is quite a good one.
“There was a really large hoard of 52,000 coins found in Somerset in 2010 but they were bronze. These are silver and are from an earlier period. In the coin world, this is a good find.”
Mr Richardson said the local museum would be given a chance to acquire the coins and that if they did not take up the offer, an inquiry would be held to decide whether the hoard could be categorised as treasure.
Any
financial
reward will be split between 50-year-old Mr Heeley and the owner of the field in Stoke-on-Trent that the coins were found in.
Network Rail maintenance worker Mr Heeley, of Hednesford, said: “They looked more like chocolate buttons at first because of the amount of muck around them. I was shell-shocked when I realised what I’d got.
“What really thrills me is that I’ve unearthed a piece of history.”
Mr Heeley made his historic discovery while on a dig with the Birmingham-based Timeline Detection group.
After several hours of looking, the 50-year-old’s detector gave a strong signal and he stopped to dig. A silver coin came up with the first shovelful and his detector started buzzing madly.
He said: “A friend Dean said ‘Oh my god, you’ve hit the jackpot’. Every handful of soil which was coming out contained silver coins. I was shaking with delight.”
Back-up was summoned and after four hours of digging, the group removed 242 coins and some fragments. Mr Heeley’s discovery came after only two years after taking up the hobby.
The Staffordshire Hoard was discovered in a field on land between Brownhills and Burntwood in 2009 by metal detector Terry Herbert. During a recent tour of America, the hoard was hailed as a “global phenomenon” after more than 50,000 visitors flocked to see it. The Hoard hit the headlines last month when it emerged travellers want to set up camp in a field bordering the site of the discovery.

Ill be uploading plenty now I have joined and own an E-Trac I have also bought a gadget to fit to the coil stem for the camera to sit on. I appreciate the work that goes into forums having been a moderator for 3 poker sites, and to me you and this site are very much appreciated. Since I have been here this week I have managed to obtain some fantastic tips from the available knowledge base that the forum contains. And that was why I choose to be a Platinum member which is the first time I have ever paid for anything to do with forums, but I did not want to miss out on anything that you guys can offer in the way of help so Platinum it was, so that I can get the best from what is becoming the best machine I have ever owned. I hope as I progress with the E-Trac that ill be able to pass on the same kind of informative tips as some of the members have. So far Minelab is a very enjoyable experience for me not just the machine but the community as well. I love seeing peoples Finds, Videos, Settings and general chit chat.

Keep up the good work, I appreciate it.

Regards

Went for my eggs today from the farm I gained access to last year.

The farmer told me that he had spotted a blue van at the end of one of the farmtracks over a few nights so thought he was having problems with hare coursers again. He went to find them over the two nights but could not see anyone.

Low and behold the same van was parked there last week in broad daylight so he went to invetsigate.

He came across three detectorists "aka Sh1thawks2 trampling across and digging up his linseed crop. He apporach them in his lannie and two of them run off but one of them was so busy digging he did not hear the farmer drive up behind him. He parked right behind him and challenged him as to what he was doing. The SH then said he had permission from the landowner and the farmer said thats funny because thats me. Now this guy who owns the land is built like a brick outhouse so the SH did not argue but then legged it.

All details, descriptions etc., have been sent to the local poilce as well as the number of the blue van.

This is the second site I have being raided on, one here now in Oxfordhsire and the other in Buckinghamshire twenty miles away last year.

It goes to show that round this part of Oxfordhsire/Buckinghamshire there is at least two groups of SH's operating and they seem to have no regard for anyone.

Unfortunately this give the rest of us a bad name so I hope they catch the Baswards.

Many of the top users of the e-Trac have constantly said "forget the screen and listen to the sounds". Is the new technology in the 3030 about to change all this?

Secondly:
Weaker users of the e-Trac, myself included, have to wear a harness to cope with the weight:(

If I spend the best part of £1800+ on a 3030, I will feel slightly miffed in have to fix some sort of loop to it with insulating tape and cable ties (aka "a bodge up"). Could not Minelab supply a custom made item within the price or, if not, then make one available as a modestly priced:) extra?
