5,000 years murder victim preserved in ice

Scientists have discovered what is thought to be the oldest blood sample known to man on the body of a 5,000 year old mummy found in an Italian glacier.

The modern-day cold case investigation has thrown new light onto the life of Oetzi the Iceman, as he has been dubbed by experts, after being discovered in a frozen glacier 22 years ago.

A series of tests have revealed what his last meal was and how he met a violent and brutal death as he trekked through the mountains at 9,000ft.
Metal Detector enthusiasts finds 14th century heart-shaped gold brooch

Shaped like a heart - and with two hands clasped together in decorative sleeves at its base - this piece of jewellery may be tiny but it was to prove an enormous find for one lucky metal detector enthusiast.
Stan Cooper, 60, unearthed the 2.5cm gold brooch beneath the soil in a farmer's field near Sandbach, Cheshire - and was initially unaware of its true provenance.
But the item - no bigger than a pound coin - has now been dated to between 1350 and 1450 and is thought to have originally been a betrothal gift because the hands appear to be male and female.
Furthermore, it is worth an astonishing £25,000.
Minelab Manufacturer detects Chinese imitators

SOUTH Australian manufacturer Codan has launched legal action to try to halt a flood of Chinese counterfeits of its gold detectors.

As many as 12 Chinese-based manufacturers have copied Codan's detector, developed by its Torrensville-based subsidiary Minelab, and which sells in Australia for about $5000.
Chief executive Donald McGurk said the fakes were impacting on sales, prompting Codan to launch international legal action and enlist the help of a company founded by former Prime Minister Bob Hawke to lobby in China for protection of its intellectual property.
Mr McGurk said counterfeiters had targeted the African market, where millions of gold prospectors were now making a living using the detectors,

Mlo corfe castle dates for 2012.

Corfe get together is going to have to be the last weekend of September this year 27th - 30th. I have no choice for two reasons. The main one is that Weekend wanderers have changed the original date of their big rally from the 15th ( second weekend) and are now going with the weekend I had planned for Corfe of the 22nd ( third weekend). Seeing as most people will want to do both rallies we have no choice.
The main reason we are also looking at a later date than previous years is because we should be fairly safe in expecting the Donkey field to be a lot less busy with other campers. We shouldn't have the problems with the camp staff we had last year with trying to split us up into other fields. A bonus with going later also will be the fact that our farmer down on the
